The mass of water that flows from high to low land continuously is called a river. Nepal is known as a country of rivers. Nepal is economically poor but naturally rich. There are about 6000 rivers. Almost 70% of them are full of water all year-round. Most of them originate from the Himalayas so they are permanent too. Nepal is the second richest country in water resources in the world. It is calculated that there are 83,000 M.W. hydro-electronic capacities in Nepal. But only 21% of it is used.

The rivers are natural gifts. They have made Nepal Known all over the world. Gandaki Koshi and Kamali are the main rivers of Nepal. The rivers provide us many things. Drinking water, electricity, irrigation, water mills are the main advantages of the rivers. Now a day, our rivers are also helping in the tourist trade. The tourists pay a lot of money for the rafting environment. Our rivers are being polluted day by day due to the high-speed growth of the population. Human habitation at the banks of rivers, sewage of the town, rubbish of the factories by, etc, must be checked. Sometimes, they become trouble; the flood may sweep away our houses people, or fields. The rivers can occupy a large area of land. These are the courses of our rivers.

The government should strictly prohibit throwing rubbish into the rivers. The rivers should be protected for drinking, irrigation, hydroelectricity, etc. They have made Nepal not only fertile but also tolerant in climate. They can flourish tourism and our economy.
